Why is Honey On My Charcuterie Board?

Is it even a charcuterie board without honey? Absolutely not!

We get this million-dollar question about the honey featured on our boards ALL.THE. TIME. And now we’re sharing our secret with the masses. Leaving honey off a charcuterie board is like leaving cheese off a pizza it’s just not right!

It’s amazing on everything

...Especially cheese! We haven't found a cheese that doesn’t pair well with honey; let’s just call it the underrated peanut butter and jelly. Cheddar, parmesan, blue, gouda, manchego, brie (OMG brie) -- honey goes with it all. You should see the shock on our clients’ faces in workshops when we share this gem, and then the astonishment on their faces when they try the honey-cheese combo. It’s priceless. We’ve even had a few “you’ve changed my life” professions. A slice of brie, topped with a fig and a drizzle of honey is truly a life-changer, and one of the reasons we got into this cheesy business.

It brings out flavors in cheeses you think you don’t like

The most popular request we get is not to include blue or goat cheese on a graze, and then it tickles us when clients order our cran-pecan specialty. We’ve even had clients munching on our specialty goat cheese while declaring that they absolutely detest goat cheese.

What’s our secret? Sure the cranberries and pecans really add to the flavor, but the honey is the underlying flavor that takes it to the next level. If you’re one to shy away from the strong taste of blue, honey can balance it out and if you think brie is too plain, honey will enhance the creamy texture and simple flavor. Honey can even make you love your favorite cheese even more. And if you think we’re bluffing, give it a try and thank us later!

It’s so versatile

Did you know jalapeno honey exists? Oh yeah, honey comes in all variations and flavors, which

makes it so much more fun when building a cheeseboard. If you want to opt for something a little soothing, grab a lavender honey. If you like to live life on the edge, take a crack at a red pepper-infused honey. And if you want to go all out, feature 4 or more honey flavors on the board and have fun with your pairings.

Pro Tip: Really try honey on everything, not just cheese. You can keep it simple with honey and a cracker or fruit, or go to town and pair as many flavors you’d like together. We love a sharp cheese with the tartness of raspberry topped off with the sweetness of honey.

The next time someone asks why honey is on your charcuterie board, just tell them to try it with any cheese, and that liquid gold will speak for itself!

There’s more where this came from! Get to know more about the ins and outs of charcuterie boards on our Board Blog.
